Rob Neilson, a 6-3 junior setter for sixth-ranked Brigham Young University (14-7, 9-5 MPSF), has been chosen the Sports Imports/AVCA Division I-II Men's National Player of the Week. Neilson paced the Cougars to two upset three-game victories over third-ranked Hawai'i last week. He led BYU to a .307 team attack percentage for the two matches, in addition to individual per game averages of 13.67 assists, 2.67 blocks, 2.17 digs and 0.83 kills per game. Neilson charted 37 assists, seven block assists, eight digs, two kills on three errorless attacks in the first match against the Warriors on March 18. The Cougars hit .296 in the victory. He paced BYU to a .317 team attack percentage in the second match on March 19 as he was credited with 45 assists, nine blocks, five digs and three kills. Neilson set career highs in blocks in both matches against Hawai'i. He averages 13.21 assists, 0.81 blocks, 1.30 digs and 0.86 kills per game this season. A Cougar student-athlete has earned the national honor 13 times. The Brigham Young head coach is Tom Peterson.
