Tyler Hildebrand, a 6-4 junior setter for seventh-ranked Long Beach State University (17-8, 11-7 MPSF), has been chosen the Sports Imports/AVCA Division I-II Men's National Player of the Week. Hildebrand led the 49ers to two three-game victories last week, including an upset of top-ranked Pepperdine. He set the LBSU offense into motion with 14.67 assists per game leading to a .375 team attack percentage for the week. Hildebrand added 1.67 digs, 0.50 blocks and 0.17 aces and 0.33 kills per game. He tallied 43 assists versus Pepperdine on March 31 as the 49ers hit .420 as a team in the contest. Hildebrand set LBSU to a .337 attack percentage with 45 assists, eight digs and three blocks versus 15th-ranked Southern California on April 2. He averages a nation-leading 14.04 assists per game this season, in addition to 0.62 blocks, 1.26 digs and 0.59 kills per game. A Long Beach State student-athlete has earned the national honor 10 times and Hildebrand has been honored three times (March 8, 2004; April 26, 2004).
