Mauli'a LaBarre, a 6-8 sophomore middle blocker for second-ranked University of Hawai'i (8-2, 5-1 MPSF), has been chosen the Sports Imports/AVCA Division I-II Men's National Player of the Week. LaBarre set a school record for single-match hitting percentage and established career single-match bests for hitting, kills, total blocks and block solos while leading the Warriors to back-to-back sweeps at ninth-ranked Stanford. He opened the weekend with a perfect 11-for-11 hitting performance with eight total blocks, including four solo blocks. LaBarre followed that outing with seven kills and a lone error in eight attempts (.750), three total blocks and one service ace in the second victory over the Cardinal. For the week, he hit .895 on 19 attempts with averages of 3.00 kills and 1.83 blocks per game. LaBarre improved his season hitting percentage from .268 to .371. The University of Hawai'i head coach is Mike Wilton.
