Evan Patak, a 6-8 freshman outside hitter for seventh-ranked UC Santa Barbara (10-6, 6-5 MPSF), has been chosen the Sports Imports/AVCA Division I-II Men's National Player of the Week. Patak led the Gauchos to sweeps of two nationally ranked Mountain Pacific Sports Federation opponents, including an upset of third-ranked Long Beach State. He opened the week hitting .400 with 13 kills, five digs, four blocks and one ace against 14th-ranked UC San Diego. Patak recorded an average of 6.67 kills per game in the sweep of LBSU for a total of 20 in the match. He hit at a .429 clip and added three blocks. Patak averaged 6.33 points, 5.50 kills, 1.16 blocks and .83 digs per game while hitting .417 (33-8-60) for the week. The UC Santa Barbara head coach is Ken Preston.
