Carlos Moreno, a 6-4 junior setter for top-ranked (tie) Brigham Young University (15-3, 13-1 MPSF), has been chosen the Sports Imports/AVCA Division I-II Men's National Player of the Week. Moreno directed the Cougars to two four-game wins over fifth-ranked Pepperdine this week to keep BYU atop the MPSF standings and extend its win streak to 14. He recorded 57 assists, six blocks, two kills and one dig, while BYU hit .355 as a team in the first match-up with the Waves. Moreno then posted a season-high 77 assists in the next outing, adding five digs, five blocks and a kill that proved to be match-point for the Cougars. The BYU offense hit at a .415 clip for the match. Moreno has moved into third place on BYU's career assists chart with 3,828 in less than three seasons. He averaged 16.75 assists, 1.38 blocks and 0.75 digs over the course of the eight games. The Brigham Young University head coach is Tom Peterson.
