Tyler Hildebrand, a 6-4 sophomore setter for second-ranked Long Beach State University (26-5, 18-4 MPSF), has been chosen the Sports Imports/AVCA Division I-II Men's National Player of the Week. Hildebrand posted his third double-double of the season in a sweep over ninth-ranked UC Santa Barbara in the MPSF first-round playoff match on April 24. He netted 51 assists (17.0 apg) and a career-high 11 digs. Hildebrand now has 3,152 career assists which ranks third all-time at The Beach. He also chipped in two kills on two attempts (1.000 pct.) and directed the 49er offense to a .360 attack percentage with no setting errors in the win. This marks the second time Hildebrand has earned this award in 2004, as he was named the national player of the week for March 8. The 49ers have won five straight matches heading into their MPSF semifinal against third-ranked UCLA on Thursday. The Long Beach State University head coach is Alan Knipe.
