Gustavo Meyer, a 6-4 freshman outside hitter for No.10 Lewis University (5-3), has been named the AVCA/Sports Imports Division I/II National Player of the Week after leading his team to an upset of second-ranked Stanford and George Mason at the Penn State NCAA Preview Tournament. Meyer averaged 5.00 kills, 0.80 blocks, 0.30 aces and 0.60 digs per game for the Flyers. He recorded a .625 attack percentage on 72 attempts in 10 games. On Feb. 1, Meyer tallied 26 kills on 39 attacks with just one error (.641), along with three aces and three blocks in a five-game victory over Stanford. The following night against George Mason, he charted 24 kills on 33 attempts (.606) to go with five blocks in a 3-2 victory. Meyer is currently attacking at a .461 percentage in his first collegiate season.
