James Claney, a 6-6 junior middle blocker for George Mason University (10-3), has been selected the AVCA/Sports Imports Division I-II National Player of the Week for leading the Patriots to a 2-0 record and their ninth straight victory. Claney averaged 3.88 kills and 1.00 blocks per game. He attacked for a .569 percentage over eight games against IPFW and No. 8 Ball State. Claney contributed 15 kills, five blocks and a .550 attack percentage versus IPFW. He charted a GMU individual season high .583 hitting percentage (16 kills on 24 attempts) in a 3-1 upset of Ball State, marking the school's first win against a ranked opponent this season. Claney ranks third in Division I-II for blocking average, and is 16th in hitting percentage. GMU's winning streak will be put to the test this week against UC Irvine, Cal Baptist and top-ranked UCLA.
