Paul Aviles, a 6-5 middle blocker for No. 11 Lewis University is the AVCA/ Sports Imports Division I/II Men's National Player of the Week for the week ending February 28, 2000.  Aviles led the Flyers in three home matches this week beginning with Division II Quincy. The Flyers took a three game decision from the Hawks, with Aviles adding seven kills on 10 attempts with zero errors (.700); he also performed strong on the defensive side of the net adding eight total blocks.  The No. 11 Flyers did not fair as well against the No. 7 Ohio State Buckeyes dropping a four-game decision despite Aviles .500 hitting percentage.  The final match of the week was against No. 9 Penn State.  The Lewis team was up for the challenge of battling the higher ranked Nittany Lions and proved victorious in a three-game home sweep.  Aviles turned in a repeat offensive performance adding eleven kills for a .500 hitting percentage.  For the week he averaged 2.9 kills per game for a .543 hitting percentage and contributed 1.9 blocks per game.  Lewis travels to MIVA foe and No. 8 IPFW March 1st and then to No. 6 UCLA March 4th.
