Texas twosome Ashley Engle and Kiley Hall spiked USC pair in the finals of the tournament, and Texas also took the overall team crown.

4/20/2008 -San Diego - Football is not the only sport where the University of Southern California and University of Texas have met in legendary championship contests. Ashley Engle and Kiley Hall of Texas defeated Taylor Carico and Jessica Gysin of USC in the 3rd Collegiate Beach Volleyball Championship today from Mariners Point in San Diego, Calif.

The pair of Lady Longhorns defeated the women of Troy 21-8, 21-12 to win the 2008 Collegiate Beach Volleyball championship as part of the third annual Collegiate Nationals, a first of its kind event that crowns national champions in 11 events. The volleyball tournament, showcasing the nation's top women's collegiate volleyball players, was staged by CBS College Sports Network, along with the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) and the AVP.

The Texas twosome spiked the USC pair in the finals of the tournament, and Texas also took the overall team crown which featured squads from Clemson University, University of Nebraska, University of San Diego and the University of Wisconsin in a team-style format where each school fielded four teams of two players.

"Beach volleyball is an evolving sport and we are extremely proud of our girls in winning the Collegiate Beach Volleyball championship," said Texas head coach Jerritt Elliott. "We look forward to defending our title next year."

Extensive television coverage of the Collegiate Nationals kicks off with a special one-hour program airing on CBS Sports on Sunday, May 25 (2:00 PM, ET). The show will launch eight consecutive days of Olympic-style programming on CBS College Sports Network, followed by sport specific shows.
