Veteran Volleyball Official will oversee all aspects of the officiating crew for the Inaugural SEC Coaches Beach Volleyball Championships, April 11 and 12.
3/10/2008 -GAINESVILLE, Fla. - Veteran Volleyball Official Mike Carter will oversee all aspects of the officiating crew for the Inaugural SEC Coaches Beach Volleyball Championships, April 11 and 12, 2008 in Gainesville, Florida. "We are thrilled to have someone of Mike's caliber to lead our officiating crew for the Inaugural SEC Coaches Beach Championships" said Tournament Competition Coordinator David Carstenson. He added, "Mike knows the game on the beach extremely well, a beach referee since 1991, and he brings instant credibility and integrity to how the matches will be managed on the court."
Mike Carter has served as a beach referee for 17 years, for the now-defunct Women's Pro Beach Volleyball Association (WPVA), United States of America Volleyball (USAV) and the Association of Volleyball Professionals (AVP). And since 2004, he has served as the Referee Evaluator for the AVP. Carter also served as a beach referee for the Fédération Internationale de Volleyball (FIVB) for domestic events from 1994-1997, and for the FIVB Beach World Championships in 1997. One of the highlights of Mike's incredible career was when he worked the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta. He worked as a Line Judge in the Beach competition, including the Men's Beach Gold Medal Match at the 1996 Summer Games.
A national referee for a quarter-of-a-century, Mike Carter also currently serves as the Director, National Rating Team for the Professional Association of Volleyball Officials, the training arm of the NCAA. Speaking of the NCAA, he referees collegiate volleyball for several major Division I and Division II Conferences, including the Southeastern Conference. Carter has worked nine NCAA Regional Tournaments and seven NCAA Finals in Divisions I, II and III.
"It will be an honor to serve as the crew chief of officials for the first-ever beach collegiate volleyball tournament to be held by a Division I Conference" said Carter. "And since I work in the Southeastern Conference as a referee in the indoor game, it will be a pleasure to see many familiar faces... coaches and players" he added.
