HORNETS NEST FLOOR TO BE RE-NAMED COLBERG COURT BEGINNING NEXT YEAR
SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- Debby Colberg won't be on the sidelines of the Hornets Nest coaching the Sacramento State volleyball squad this fall, but every Hornet team that plays there will compete on a floor bearing her name at the beginning of the new school year.
Beginning in the fall of 2008, Sacramento State volleyball and basketball teams will play their home games on Colberg Court, named in honor of the 32-year veteran coach who retired at the conclusion of the 2007 season.
Joseph Sheley, Sacramento State Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs, made the announcement to a crowd of nearly 300 guests in attendance at Colberg's retirement banquet Sunday evening in the University Union.
In addition, Colberg was named as an immediate inductee into the Sacramento State Athletics Hall of Fame and was presented with a plaque and lifetime athletic pass at the Sunday evening event.
The winningest coach in any sport at Sacramento State, Colberg posted an 828-292 record, garnered two national titles and posted winning volleyball seasons in 30 of her 32 years as head coach.
Colberg, who guided her squads to 20 NCAA Tournament appearances, was also inducted into the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Hall of Fame in December.
