No. 10 Ohio Northern's All-Americans Lead Team to Sweep Over Muskingum
ADA, Ohio - The No. 10-ranked Ohio Northern volleyball team was led by its pair of All-Americans, as junior middle hitter Liz Schnelle had 20 kills and senior setter Katie Weininger dished out 45 assists in a three-set sweep over visiting Muskingum Saturday afternoon at the ONU Sports Center.
The Polar Bears (20-4, 6-0 OAC) defeated the Muskies (18-5, 2-3) 25-13, 25-17, 25-15.
Schnelle dominated in the middle with a .548 hitting percentage and had a very solid all around match with seven digs, a block and an ace.
With 20 kills, Schnelle surpasses the 1,400-kill mark and has 1,401 for her career.
Weininger also turned in a complete match, orchestrating the offense while recording seven digs, five kills and an ace.
Northern put on an offensive clinic in the first set with 22-of-25 points coming via kill, while recording a .459 hitting percentage.
The Polar Bears used two service aces and a Muskingum error to earn all 25 points of Set 1.
Northern finished the match with a .283 hitting percentage and held Muskingum to just a .102 mark.
Freshman libero Kasey Roeser played very well in the back row for the Polar Bears, tallying 19 digs and three aces.
Junior defensive specialist Liz Decima also had a fine performance with 15 digs on the match.
Junior Renee Berry had nine kills, senior Samantha Markham had seven kills and sophomores Alex Christian and Abby Schaller each had six kills to round out the Northern offense.
NCAA Division III blocks leader Jessica McKenzie had four total blocks today for Muskingum and was the only Muskie in double digits with 10 kills.
Northern will take its undefeated conference record on the road to Wilmington on Tuesday at 7 pm before heading to the Trinity (Texas) Invitational on Friday and Saturday.
