WICHITA, Kan. - Drake fought off a 2-0 deficit, but failed to outlast No.12 Wichita State. The Shockers (22-0, 11-0) bounced back to take the final set, winning the match, 3-2 (25-14, 25-12, 26-28, 23-25, 15-8).

The Bulldogs jumped out to an early 6-2 lead with the help of three Shocker errors. WSU stormed back and took an 8-7 lead after back-to-back kills by Lindsey Eckenrode. That opened the door for a 9-3 run and the Shockers never looked back. Led by five kills from Emily Stockman, WSU cruised to the 25-14 win.

The Shockers carried their momentum from the first set to the second set as WSU wasted no time in taking a 15-4 lead. Stockman again led the Shocker attack with five kills. Defensively, WSU held the Bulldogs to a .029 attack percentage. Eckenrode delivered the final blow in a 25-12 WSU win.

WSU got off to a quick start in the third set, taking a 13-6 lead with the help of six Bulldog errors. DU would not go quietly however, going on a 7-1 run of its own to pull within two, 15-13. Back-to-back service aces by Stockman gave WSU some breathing room, but the Bulldogs were not done.

DU fought off match-point twice and tied the score at 24 on a kill by Angela Bys. The Bulldogs survived another match-point scare and finished on a 3-0 run to win the set, 28-26. After hitting .338 in the first two sets, the Shockers were held to just .174 and committed nine errors.

The Shockers opened the fourth set on a 11-5 run with five different players registering a kill. Again DU rallied, going on a 7-1 run to tie the set at 12.

Stockman led the offense with 20 kills, and was one of four Shockers to tally double-digit kills. Eckenrode followed Stockman with 12. Senior Kelly Broussard battled with the Bulldogs for 28 digs.

The Shockers are next in action on Fri., Oct. 31 when they travel to Terre Haute, Ind., to face Indiana State.
