No. 7 Carthage Defeats UW-La Crosse and Simpson
LA CROSSE, Wisc. - After losing two matches on Friday, Oct. 24, the Carthage College women's volleyball team (23-3, 6-0 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin), ranked seventh in the Oct. 21 American Volleyball Coaches Association/CBS College Sports Network NCAA Division III poll, rebounded on Saturday, Oct. 25 with a pair of wins at the Wisconsin-La Crosse Tournament II at Mitchell Hall in La Crosse, Wis.
On Friday, Carthage fell to Luther College (17-11), 3-1, before losing to No. 10 Wisconsin-Oshkosh (28-2), also 3-1.
Luther's winning set scores over Carthage were 25-20, 16-25, 25-20 and 25-10, while the Titans' winning set scores over the Lady Reds were 18-25, 25-22, 34-32 and 29-27.
On Saturday, Oct. 25, the Lady Reds defeated No. 29 Wisconsin-La Crosse (22-9), and Simpson College (17-12) by identical, 3-1 scores.
Carthage's winning set scores over UW-La Crosse were 22-25, 25-19, 25-21 and 26-24, while the Lady Reds' winning scores over the Storm were 25-23, 25-17 and 25-19.
Lady Reds setter Drewann Pancratz was named to the all-tournamewnt team.
Carthage travels to Bloomington, Ill., on Tuesday, Oct. 28 to play CCIW-opponent Illinois Wesleyan University in a 7 p.m. match at the Shirk Center.
A Carthage win on Tuesday would give the Lady Reds their fourth-straight outright CCIW title, while a loss would mean a co-championship with the Titans.
