No. 4 West Texas A&M Sweeps Tarleton State
CANYON, Texas - The No. 4-ranked Lady Buffs complete the regular season with a record of 30-4 overall and a perfect 13-0 in Lone Star Conference play after defeating Tarleton State (21-9, 10-3 LSC) today in the Box with scores of 25-12, 25-13, and 25-23. WT clinched the LSC regular season championship on Thursday with Tarleton earning runners-up honors.
"This game was fun to watch, it was good to see us come out strongly in sets one and two," said head coach Tony Graystone. "Tarleton stepped up in the third set and it was nice to see us respond, hold on, and pull out a win."
The Lady Buffs put up eight total blocks, led by middles Melissa Harper (junior, Peoria, Ariz.) and Ashley Dyer (junior, Perryton, Texas). Harper put up five total blocks, one solo and four block assists while Dyer contributed two block assists. Harper also led the team in kills, recording 12 in 19 attemtps for a hitting percentage of .579. Laura Prinsen (junior, rightside hitter, Spring, Texas) tallied 10 kills, coming up with three in the last few rallies of the third set to give the Lady Buffs the win.
"Our middles really came up big for us today. Melissa hit a high percentage and had five huge blocks and Ashley continues to make progress and gain more and more success," Graystone said. "We are looking forward to the post season after all of our hard work. Hopefully we can relax and enjoy the rest of the ride."
The Lady Buffs will host the Lone Star Conference tournament on Nov. 13, 14, and 15.
