AUSTIN, Texas - Texas junior All-America outside hitter Destinee Hooker hammered out 24 kills to lead the fourth-ranked UT Volleyball team to a 3-1 victory over No. 3 Nebraska Wednesday night, in front of a record crowd of 4,324 at Gregory Gymnasium. The Longhorns' 25-19, 21-25, 25-22, 25-22 win improved Texas to 22-3 on the year and 15-2 in league play, while the Huskers fell to 25-2 overall and 16-2 in league play. Texas' win moved the Horns into a first-place tie with NU in the Big 12 standings.

Texas grabbed an early 7-5 advantage in the first set by using five quick kills by Hooker. The Longhorns widened the margin to three on a Hooker kill at the 16-13 mark and took a 20-18 lead on another of Hooker's 12 first-set kills. The Horns closed out the frame with four straight points, including three NU errors that propelled UT to a 25-19 win.

In the second frame, both teams struggled offensively with Nebraska out-hitting Texas, .135-to-.094. The Longhorns took a quick 8-5 lead on a kill by junior All-America opposite hitter Ashley Engle, but were unable to contain 5-1 Huskers' run that put NU ahead, 11-10. Nebraska pushed its edge to 18-13, but a 4-0 Texas run tightened the score to 18-17. The Huskers answered with a 3-0 run of their own and eventually closed out the set 25-21.

The Longhorns trailed early in the third stanza, but battled back to tie the set at 17 on a kill by junior All-America opposite hitter Ashley Engle. Nebraska kept the tally tight until a kill by sophomore middle blocker Jennifer Doris gave UT its first lead at the 20-19 mark. A kill by Engle and two straight Nebraska hitting errors moved the score to 24-21, and a kill by senior middle blocker Lauren Paolini lifted UT to a 25-22 victory.

In the fourth, Texas leapt out to a quick 6-0 lead on two kills and two blocks by Doris. The Huskers fought back to tie the set at 10 and take a temporary lead before a kill and two blocks from sophomore All-America outside hitter Juliann Faucette put Texas in front, 18-16. Nebraska evened the score at 21, but a 4-1 Longhorns' run fueled by two kills each from Engle and Faucette handed UT a 25-22 set win.

Engle tallied 12 kills on .333 hitting for the Horns, while Hooker added 17 kills to her all-around effort. Nebraska senior outside hitter Jordan Larson headlined the Huskers with 15 kills and sophomore outside hitter Tara Mueller added 13 kills.

Texas returns to action on Saturday, Nov. 22 when it hosts Kansas. First serve is set for 6:30 p.m.
