DIII No. 7 Ramapo Defeats DI Sacred Heart and DIII No. 14 Philadelphia Biblical

MAHWAH, N.J. - The No. 7 Ramapo Roadrunners posted a 3-0 victory over Sacred Heart University in their first match-up of the day before defeating No. 14 Philadelphia Biblical (PBU), 3-0. In other matches around the arena, Rivier defeated PBU, 3-0, before wrapping up the weekend with a 3-1 victor over Sacred Heart.

Match 1: Court 1: Ramapo 3 - Sacred Heart 0 (30-23, 30-28, 30-21)
The Roadrunners defeated Division I Sacred Heart University in three straight sets to improve to 3-1 overall on the year. Sacred Heart suffers their first loss of the year to fall to 4-1. Ramapo combined hitting .413 with 60 kills on 104 attempts with 17 errors. The Roadrunners led must of game one and three but in game two, down seven points, 15-22, Ramapo connected nine straight points to regain the lead, 24-22. The Roadrunners never looked back taking game two, 30-28. Senior Tom Kohler (East Brunswick, NJ) and sophomore Jeff Elsasser (Barnegat, NJ) led the team with 14 kills apiece while senior Shane Donohue (Freehold Twp., NJ) recorded 13 of his own. TC Elsasser (Barnegat, NJ) hit .750 with 12 kills on 16 attempts and no errors. Jairo Sierra (Fair Lawn, NJ) dished out 40 assists and Donohue led the defense with eight digs. Sacred Hearts's Kalani Efstathiou (Beaverton, OR) led the offensive attack with 12 kills while his team combined for 35 on 83 attempts with 13 errors hitting .265. Tim Sadowski (Salem, NH) dished out 30 assists and added a team leading six digs.

Match 1: Court 2: Rivier 3 - PBU 0 (30-21, 30-20, 30-23)
The Raiders of Rivier College defeated PBU, 3-0 in their first match-up of the day to improve to 5-1 overall. PBU falls to 1-2 with the loss. Austin Soucy (Tolland, CT) led the Raiders with seven kills and Scott Wright (Salem, NH) and Jared Andreozzi (Barrington, RI) each added five. Zach Hansen (Shelton, CT) dished out a team high 31 assists and Kyle O'Neill (Long Beach, NY) led the defense with 13 digs. Justin Brubaker (Telford, PA) and Leo Dueck (Lititz, PA) led PBU with 15 and ten kills respectively, while the defense was led by Brubaker as well with 11 digs for the double-double. Drew Dillon (Mount Joy, PA) dished out 34 assists. PBU recorded a combined 36 kills on 111 attempts with 23 errors hitting .117 while Rivier put down 42-93 with 13 errors hitting .312 in their fifth win of the year.

Match 2: Court 1: Ramapo 3 - PBU 0 (30-24, 30-28, 30-28)
The Roadrunners wrap up the weekend with a 3-0 shut out victory over PBU, led by 15 kills from Donohue. Donohue added six digs in the win while defensive specialist Kevin McNerney (Bayonne, NJ) led the way with 13 digs. Ramapo combined putting away 52 kills on 116 attempts hitting .319. PBU went 51-119 with 23 errors hitting .235 in the match. T. Elsasser recorded 12 kills and Kohler added ten, while Sierra dished out 43 assists. Elvis Cabrera (Clifton, NJ) recorded six total blocks and J. Elsasser put away five. Brubaker led PBU with 20 kills and Dueck added 15 of his own. Dillon dished out 47 assists and Brubaker led the defense with 11 digs. Ramapo wraps up the weekend at 4-1 overall, PBU falls to 1-3.

Match 2: Court 2: Rivier 3 - Sacred Heart 1 (30-19, 26-30, 30-24, 30-24)
The Raiders went undefeated over the weekend wrapping up the day with a 3-1 victory over Sacred Heart University to improve to 6-1 overall. Sacred Heart falls to 4-2.  Andreozzi led the Raiders once again with 16 kills and five digs while Matt Ferreira (Lincoln, RI) recorded ten kills of his own.  Hansen dished out 47 assists and added 11 digs. Barry Smith (Shelton, CT) led Scared Heart with 21 kills and four aces while Sadowski recorded 45 assists and six digs in the match.  Efstathiou recorded 18 kills and 12 digs for the double-double.

The Roadrunners return to action on Wednesday night when they host SUNY Purchase at 7:00 PM.
