2008-2009 AVCA Team Academic Award...AVCA recognizes a record 409 teams for academic excellence. This number once again eclipses the previous years' total of 354 and sets a new all-time high for this award. Click here for the full release.

Under Armour All-America Volleyball Match & Skills Competition...The 2009 Under Armour All-America Volleyball Match & Skills Competition will be played Sunday, December 20 at 1 p.m. EST, at St. Pete Times Forum, as part of AVCA Annual Convention in Tampa. Tickets are now on sale through the St. Pete Times Forum box office and Ticketmaster. Please note that the AVCA Convention attendees may purchase their tickets through their Convention registration, which will begin mid-August. Click here for more.

2009 AVCA Annual Convention Coming to Tampa!...Get into a Sunshine State of Mind as the 2009 AVCA Convention goes to Tampa, Fla., Dec. 16-20. The 2008 convention in Omaha was a huge success, with nearly 1,600 coaches and exhibitors in attendance. Planning is already underway to make the Tampa convention the biggest and the best yet, with several new enhancements you won't want to miss. Watch your e-mail and the AVCA Web site for convention details in the coming weeks.

Grand Canyon men's volleyball joins MIVA...Grand Canyon's men's volleyball program will join the Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association in 2010. The Antelopes will face the other six members -- Ball State, IPFW, Lewis, Loyola-Chicago, Ohio State and Quincy -- in double round-robin play and will be eligible for the MIVA postseason tournament.

DII pilots regional format alternatives for 2009-10...The Division II Championships Committee has approved a pilot program for 2009-10 that allows "format advisory groups" to recommend an alternative to the current eight-team bracket for men's and women's basketball and
women's volleyball regionals.

PAVO Line Judge & Scorekeeper Training Tools for 2009...Are you responsible for hiring and training the line judges and scorekeepers for your home volleyball matches? The Professional Association of Volleyball Officials (PAVO) has developed training videos and manuals to make your job easier!

Mary Ellen Leicht Named Executive Director of the NJCAA...The National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Executive Committee has named Mary Ellen Leicht the Executive Director of the organization. Leicht was inducted into the NJCAA Volleyball Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 2004 and becomes just the third Executive Director for the NJCAA dating back to 1939, and is the first female to be named to the position.

McCutcheon Intent on Working Forward...Almost one year has passed since Hugh McCutcheon coaches the United States men's volleyball team to a gold medal 15 days after losing his father-in-law, Todd Bachman, during the 2008 Beijing Olympics. He and his wife Elisabeth are still grieving. But more important, they are living. Click here for the full story.

Walsh fit, set to return to beach volleyball tour...The two-time Olympic gold medalist said that she will return for the AVP tour stop in Hermosa Beach, California on August 6 -- about 2 1/2 months after the birth of her son, Joseph. Click here for more.

Coaches and conferences tap into online social networks for recruiting, exposure...Twitter has been around since 2006, but only recently have college coaches, universities and conferences jumped on the bandwagon. They use the social networking tool for anything from connecting with fans to recruiting to talking about trips with their families. The scope of Twitter is limitless, which is why a lot of coaches and conferences feel they're just beginning to scratch the surface of its potential.

DeBoer named to 2009 UK Hall of Fame Class...The University of Kentucky announced during the 2009 CATSPY Awards the 2009 inductees into the UK Athletics Hall of Fame which included AVCA Executive Director and former volleyball coach, Kathy DeBoer.

AVP Crocs Slam Bud Light Manhattan Beach Open Results...Nicole Branagh and Elaine Youngs won the MBO title defeating Annett Davis and Jenny Johnson Jordan. The win was Branagh and Youngs' first as a team in Manhattan and sixth in the eight events they've played this year. Third seeds and Beijing Olympians Jake Gibb and Sean Rosenthal won the men's title over Matt Olson and Kevin Wong, who earlier defeated Olympic gold medalists Phil Dalhausser and Todd Rogers.
