Carli Lloyd, a sophomore setter for then-No. 5 University of California, has been named the Sports Imports/AVCA Division I National Player of the Week. She earned the award for her strong play in helping the Golden Bears defeat then-No. 4 Stanford. It was the first time Cal has beaten the Cardinal in Stanford since 1979. In the match, she scored her fourth double-double of the season, as she dished out 55 assists in leading her team to a .260 hitting percentage, while also scooping up 12 digs in the 3-1 win. In addition, Lloyd added four kills and three blocks in the upset. This is the third time an athlete from California has earned the Sports Imports/AVCA Division I National Player of the Week award. The last Golden Bear to earn the award was Mia Jerkov on October 12, 2003. California is coached by Rich Feller.
