Danielle Alexander, a senior middle blocker for then-No. 6 Grand Valley State, has been named the Sports Imports/AVCA Division II National Player of the Week after leading her team to three wins last week at the inaugural GLVC/GLIAC Crossover Tournament. Grand Valley State is currently on an 18-match win streak, four wins shy of the all-time program record. In the Lakers first match, a 3-1 triumph over then-No. 24 Indianapolis, Alexander put away 16 kills while hitting .382 in the win. She also had four digs and two blocks in the match. She followed that up in Grand Valley State's 3-1 victory over then-No. 21 Northern Kentucky with 14 kills and a .464 hitting percentage, while also chipping in four digs and eight blocks to the team effort. She ended the week by hitting at a .500 clip with 12 kills, five digs and five blocks in a sweep of Bellarmine. For the three matches, the senior turned in a .439 hitting percentage, while averaging 3.82 kills, 1.18 digs, 1.36 blocks and 4.73 points per set. Alexander is the first athlete from Grand Valley State University to earn Sports Imports/AVCA Division II National Player of the Week honors. The Lakers are coached by Deanne Scanlon.
