Arica Shepard, a junior outside hitter for then-No. 9 Emporia State, has been named the Sports Imports/AVCA Division II National Player of the Week after leading her team to three victories last week, including a win over then-No.10 Truman. Shepard began the week by recording a double-double, her first of three for the week, swatting 21 kills and collecting 23 digs in a five-set victory over the Bulldogs. The junior also added four blocks in the effort. In the Hornets' next match, a sweep of Missouri Western, Shepard totaled 10 kills, 11 digs and two assists. She ended the week by earning her fourth consecutive double-double, chipping in 14 kills and 21 digs, while hitting at a .429 clip in ESU's 3-0 whitewashing of Northwest Missouri. For the three matches, Shepard averaged 4.09 kills, 5.00 digs and 4.27 points per set. This marks the second time an athlete from Emporia State has earned the Sports Imports/AVCA Division II National Player of the Week award. The last Hornet to earn the award was Megan Koster on Sept. 24, 2007. Emporia State is coached by Bing Xu.
