Caitlin Higgins, a freshman outside hitter for the University of Oklahoma, has been named the Sports Imports/AVCA Division I National Player of the Week. She earned the award for leading her team to two wins last week, including an upset of then-No. 3 The University of Texas. In a battle of Big 12 foes, Higgins scored a double-double, getting 18 kills and 12 digs, while also adding three aces and a block in the 3-2 victory over the Longhorns. She followed that up with her second double-double of the week, scoring 13 kills and 20 digs in a 3-2 win over Baylor, in addition to tallying two aces and three blocks. For the week, Higgins averaged 3.1 kills, 3.20 digs, and 3.85 points per set. Higgins is the first athlete from the University of Oklahoma to be named the Sports Imports/AVCA Division I National Player of the Week. The Sooners are coached by Santiago Restrepo.
