Nikki Morrison, a senior right side/opposite for then-No. 4 Washington University-St. Louis, has been named the Sports Imports/AVCA Division III National Player of the Week after leading her team to the 2008 University Athletic Association Championship, which included a 3-2 win over then-No. 1 Emory. In the first of four wins for the Bears last week, Morrison had eight kills, six digs and two blocks in a 3-0 win over NYU, then followed that up with 11 kills, four digs and one block in a sweep of Case Western. In WUSTL's 3-1 win over Carnegie Mellon, Morrison hit .548 behind a season-high 19 kills, while adding seven digs, one ace and five blocks. She finished the week with a 14-kill, two-dig, two-ace performance in the Bears' 3-2 upset of Emory, a match in which she also registered four blocks. For the week, Morrison hit .432, while averaging 3.47 kills, 1.27 digs and 4.17 points per set. Morrison is the 22nd athlete from Washington -St. Louis., and the second this year, to earn Sports Imports/AVCA Division III National Player of the Week honors. The last Bear to earn the weekly award was Alli Alberts on Oct. 7, 2008. Washington-St. Louis is coached by Rich Luenemann.
