Maggie McNamara, a senior setter for top-ranked Concordia -St. Paul, has been named the Sports Imports/AVCA Division II Player of the Week after helping lead her team to 4-0 record and wins over two nationally-ranked opponents at the Comfort Inn-vitational last weekend. McNamara started the tournament off with a double-double, tallying 38 assists and 11 digs along with two blocks and an ace in a sweep of Eckerd. In the Golden Bears' next match, she dished out 36 assists, in addition to adding six digs, one block and one ace in a 3-0 win over then-No. 15 West Florida to end the first day of play. On the final day of the tournament, the 2008 AVCA Division II National Player of the Year opened with 47 assists, three digs and two blocks in a whitewashing Florida Tech, and then finished up with 51 assists, eight digs and one ace in a five-set win over then-No. 12 Central Missouri. For the week, McNamara averaged 13.23 assists and 2.15 digs per set. This is the seventh time an athlete from Concordia-St. Paul has earned Sports Imports/AVCA Division II Player of the Week honors and marks the second honor for McNamara, her last coming on Sept. 9, 2008. The Golden Bears are coached by Brady Starkey.
