Wayne State's Jennifer Hefner Named Sports Imports/AVCA Division II National Player of the Week
Jennifer Hefner, a junior middle blocker for Wayne State College (Neb.), has been named the Sports Imports/AVCA Division II Player of the Week after leading her team to a 5-0 record, including a 4-0 mark at the Rockhurst Tournament last weekend. Hefner started the week by hitting .375, while drilling 13 kills with three assists, two blocks and two digs in a sweep of Chadron State. She then began the Rockhurst Tournament by hitting at a .526 clip with 12 kills, four blocks and three digs in a 3-0 win against Fort Hays State. In the Wildcats' next match, Hefner scored 18 kills with two aces, two digs and a block in the 3-1 victory over host Rockhurst. Hefner followed that up with her best performance of the weekend hitting an impressive .727, drilling 16 kills with no errors in yet another sweep, this one against Illinois-Springfield. Hefner finished the weekend off by leading WSU to its fourth sweep against Missouri Western hitting .468 and clubbing 11 kills with zero errors. She also tallied in two digs and an ace to lead the team to the tournament championship. For the week, Hefner averaged 4.38 kills, 0.62 blocks and 5.06 points per set. This is the third time an athlete from Wayne State has received the Sports Imports/AVCA Division II National Player of the Week award, with Emily Schroeder earning the previous accolade on Nov. 12, 2007.
