Point Loma Nazarene's Henken Nabs First Volleyball Player of the Week Honor

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Tabitha Henken of No. 8 Point Loma Nazarene University (Calif.) has been named the NAIA Volleyball National Player of the Week, the national office announced Tuesday. Henken is the first honoree of the 2009 season based on her performances from Sept. 1-6. She was chosen out of a pool of conference player of the week selections among 21 conferences.

Henken, a 6-3 sophomore hailing from Carlsbad, Calif., led the Sea Lions to five wins last week at the Asics-Crowne Plaza Labor Day Tournament. Included in that stretch, Point Loma Nazarene swept No. 17 Indiana Tech and No. 13 Olivet Nazarene (Ill.), 3-0.

For the week, the outside hitter had 86 kills (4.78 k/g), 44 digs (2.44 d/g), seven aces and five assist blocks. Henken had double-figure kills in each match, including 25 against Carroll (Mont.) and 21 against Great Falls (Mont.).

Henken ranks fifth nationally in kills per game with 5.6.
