Paul Carroll, a 6-9 senior right side/opposite for then-No. 4 Pepperdine University, has been named the Sports Imports/AVCA Division I-II Men's National Player of the Week. He earned the award for his solid play in leading the Waves to two wins last week, which included a victory over then-No. 3 Stanford. In Pepperdine's first match of the week, a 3-0 win over Pacific, Carroll scored a double-double, hitting at a .571 clip, while putting away 14 kills and scooping up 10 digs. He also had five block assists in the victory. He followed that up by hitting .415 behind 19 kills, while also adding seven digs, one ace, one solo block and two block assists in Pepperdine's sweep of the Cardinal. For the week, Carroll notched a .468 hitting percentage over the two matches, while averaging 5.50 kills, 2.83 digs, 1.33 blocks and 6.42 points per game. This is Carroll's fourth Sports Imports/AVCA Division I-II Men's National Player of the Week honor, having also earned the distinction April 16, 2007, Jan. 14, 2008 and April 21, 2008. It is also the 20th time an athlete from Pepperdine has earned the award. The last Wave to receive the honor was Jonathan Winder on April 28, 2008. Pepperdine is coached by Marv Dunphy.
