Mark Ribeiro, a 6-2 senior outside hitter for then-No. 1 Springfield College, has been named the Sports Imports Division III Men's National Player of the Week after helping lead his team to wins over Division III No. 2 Juniata and Division I Princeton last week. In the Pride's first match of the week, an exciting 3-2 victory over the second-ranked Eagles, Ribeiro scored a double-double with 15 kills and 12 digs, while also notching four aces and one solo block. The University of Hawai'i transfer followed with a 16-kill, three-dig, one-ace and seven-block performance in a 3-1 win over Division I Princeton. For the week, Ribeiro hit .303 while averaging 3.44 kills, 1.67 digs and 4.50 points per game. This is the first time Ribeiro has been named Sports Imports Division I-II Men's National Player of the Week. He is the 16th athlete from Springfield to garner the award. The last member of the Pride to receive Player of the Week honors was Eric Shoemaker on April 14, 2008. Springfield is coached by Charlie Sullivan.
