Eric Vance, a 6-4 senior outside hitter for then-No. 4 California State University, Northridge has been named the Sports Imports/AVCA Division I-II Men's National Player of the Week. He earns the award for helping lead the Matadors to wins over a pair of nationally ranked teams last week, including an upset of then-No. 1 Pepperdine. In that match, a five-game thriller, Vance scored a double-double, putting away 23 kills and picking up 14 digs, while also adding two aces and two block assists in the win. In CS Northridge's second match, a sweep of then-No. 5 Southern California, Vance hit .455 and had 18 kills, four digs, two aces and one block assist. For the week, Vance hit .368 and averaged 5.12 kills, 2.25 digs and 5.81 points per game. This is the second time this season (Jan. 20) and the third time in his career (Feb. 25, 2008) that Vance has earned Sports Imports Division I-II Men's National Player of the Week honors. He is also the ninth athlete from CS Northridge to earn the award. The last Matador other than Vance to earn the distinction was Dan Rhodes on Feb. 20, 2006. CS Northridge is coached by Jeff Campbell.
