Dan Powers, a 6-4 senior middle blocker for then-No. 2 Juniata College, has been named the Sports Imports/AVCA Division III Men's National Player of the Week. He earned the award after leading his team to two victories last week, including an upset of then-No. 1 Springfield. After scoring seven kills, five blocks and a dig in a loss to nationally-ranked Division I power Penn State, Powers hit .480, while putting away 15 kills in the 3-1 toppling of Springfield. He also had two aces, two digs, and five blocks in the match. He closed out the week by hitting .667 with 10 kills in 15 attempts and zero errors in the Eagles' win over Division I NJIT, also notching two aces, one dig and one block in the match. For the week, Powers hit .537 and averaged 3.20 kills, 1.10 blocks and 4.35 points per game. This is the first time Powers picks up Sports Imports/AVCA Division III Men's National Player of the Week honors, becoming the 18th athlete from Juniata to receive the award. The last Eagle to be honored was Matt Fritz on March 26, 2007. Juniata is coached by Jeremy Price.
