St. Lawrence University's volleyball team opened the Oswego Invitational with a pair of wins on Friday, giving third-year Saint head coach Melissa DeRan her 100th collegiate coaching victory.

The Saints beat Utica 3-0, winning 25-20, 25-12 and 25-19 and topped Morrisville 25-9, 25-22 and 25-12 in day one action at Oswego. The Saints will play D'Youville, also 2-0 after Friday play in their first match on Saturday.

DeRan, who had 36 of her 100 wins at Division II Tiffin University, is now 64-16 in her third season at St. Lawrence. Her 2008 team set a record for wins in a season and this year's squad improved to 17-3 with Friday's wins, the best 20-game start to a season in program history.

First Year Alex Kamakas led the Saints in their sweep of Utica, registering 12 kills in a strong performance at the net. Abby Rose had 33 assists and sophomore Nyasha Miller had nine kills and 10 digs in with win over Morrisville.
