Sam Dabbs, a senior setter for Louisiana State University, has been named the Sports Imports/AVCA Division I National Player of the Week. She earned the award after leading the Tigers to a pair of sweeps, including an upset of then-No. 6 Florida, marking LSU's first win over the Gators since the 1991 season. Dabbs started the week by narrowly missing a triple-double, dishing out 34 assists and drilling nine kills in a whitewashing of South Carolina, a match in which she also contributed 12 digs, two blocks and one ace. She continued the week with a solid performance against Florida, racking up 49 assists, eight digs and two kills, while guiding the Tigers' attack corps to a .333 team hitting percentage. The win also marks the first time the Gators have been swept in Southeastern Conference (SEC) regular season action since 1990. For the week, Dabbs averaged a season-best 13.83 assists, 3.33 digs and 1.83 kills per set, while directing the Tigers' offense to a .308 attack percentage. This is the first time an athlete from LSU has received the Sports Imports/AVCA Division I National Player of the Week award. The Tigers are coached by Fran Flory.
