Lauren Budde, a sophomore middle blocker for then-No. 5 Washington University in St. Louis, has been named the Sports Imports/AVCA Division III National Player of the Week. She earned the award for her all-around efforts in leading the Bears to three more victories on the season, running the squad's current record to 18-3 and a perfect 3-0 mark in University Athletic Association (UAA) action. Budde smashed 17 kills, hitting at a .441 clip, and tallied 15 digs and three blocks in Wash U's 3-1 win over Elmhurst to begin the week's action. She continued play by swatting 11 kills, scooping up 18 digs and adding three blocks, one assist and one ace in the Bears' sweep of Central (Iowa). Budde finished the week with her best performance in a blanking of Wisconsin-La Crosse, hitting .520 with 14 kills, 16 digs, four blocks, two assists and one ace, marking her third double-double in as many attempts. For the week, Budde hit an efficient .411 and averaged 4.20 kills, 4.90 digs, 1.00 blocks and 5.00 points per set. This is the 23rd time an athlete from Washington-St. Louis has received the Sports Imports/AVCA Division III National Player of the Week award, with Nikki Morrison earning the last distinction Nov. 11, 2008. The Bears are coached by Rich Luenemann.
