Sports Imports/AVCA Division II National Player of the Week
Melissa McCracken, a junior outside hitter for Lander University, has been named the Sports Imports/AVCA Division II National Player of the Week. She earned the award after helping the Bearcats to a 4-1 record on the week to improve their season mark to 17-10 overall. McCracken began action with a seven-kill, eight-dig, three-block performance in a sweep of Queens. The offensive fireplug then kicked things up a notch, drilling 32 kills, while collecting 15 digs and three blocks in a thrilling five-set win over Lees-McRae. The junior followed with another productive outing, this time smashing 25 kills and grabbing 16 digs in a 3-1 victory over Erskine. In Lander's next match, a tough 3-0 loss to then-No. 24 Wingate, McCracken tallied seven kills, 12 digs and two aces. The Bearcats' weapon bounced back with her third double-double of the week, totaling 19 kills, 30 digs and three blocks in a 3-2 triumph over Anderson. For the week, McCracken averaged 4.50 kills and 4.05 digs per set. This marks the first time an athlete from Lander has received Sports Imports/AVCA Division II National Player of the Week accolades. The Bearcats are coached by Carla Decker.
