Sports Imports/AVCA Division III National Player of the Week
Liz Schnelle, a senior middle blocker for then-No. 6 Ohio Northern University, has been named the Sports Imports/AVCA Division III Player of the Week after propelling the Polar Bears to their fourth-straight Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) Tournament Championship. Schnelle started off the week by hitting a sizzling .516, drilling 19 kills, while also contributing three digs and two blocks in a sweep of John Carroll. The two-time AVCA All-American continued her stellar play by putting down 16 kills, while adding four digs, two blocks and one ace in a whitewashing of Mount Union. Schnelle finished the tournament with her best outing, achieving a double-double with 27 kills and 10 digs in a thrilling 3-2 win over then-No. 19 Heidelberg. She also contributed two blocks and one ace in the match. For the week, Schnelle, who was named the OAC Player of the Year for the second consecutive season, averaged 5.64 kills and 1.55 digs per set, while hitting an efficient .402. This is the eleventh time an athlete from Ohio Northern has earned the Sports Imports/AVCA Division III Player of the Week award and marks the fifth time the award has been given to Schnelle. She last received the honor on Sept. 22 of this season. The Polar Bears are coached by Kate Witte.
