Brad Lawson, a 6-7 outside hitter for then-No. 5 Stanford University, has been named the Sports Imports/AVCA Division I-II Men's National Player of the Week. The sophomore earns the award after powering his team to two home Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) wins last week. In the Cardinal's first match, a sweep of then-No. 3 UCLA, Lawson hit .400 with 15 kills, five digs and two assists. In Stanford's next match, Lawson drilled 22 kills on .372 hitting, while also picking up nine digs, three blocks and an assist.  For the week, Lawson recorded an efficient .384 attack percentage, while averaging 5.29 kills, 2.00 digs and 5.50 points per game. This is the first time Lawson has earned Sports Imports/AVCA Men's Division I-II Player of the Week accolades and marks the seventh time a Stanford athlete has grabbed the award. The last Cardinal to earn the distinction was Evan Romero on March 8, 2008. Stanford is coached by John Kosty.

Justin Lam, a 6-0 outside hitter for then-No. 3 UC Santa Cruz, has been named the Sports Imports/AVCA Men's Division III National Player of the Week. He earned the award by helping the Banana Slugs to a perfect 4-0 mark on the week, including capturing the Nazareth Invitational title. Lam kicked things off with an 18-kill, six-dig, four-block performance in UCSC's sweep of then-No. 9 Stevens. In the Banana Slugs' next match, a 3-2 win over then-No. 14 Medaille, Lam blistered 17 kills, while totaling 11 blocks and firing off five aces. Lam continued his hot streak by notching 12 kills, six digs and two blocks in a whitewashing of then-No. 5 Rivier. The senior leader finished the week by netting 18 kills, seven digs, three aces and a block in a five-set triumph over SUNY New Paltz. For the week, Lam averaged 4.06 kills, 1.75 blocks and 1.38 digs per game, while hitting an impressive .457. This marks the fifth time a player from UC Santa Cruz has received the Sports Imports/AVCA Men's Division III National Player of the Week award, and is the first for Lam.  The Banana Slugs are coached by Jonah Carson.
