The AVCA and entire volleyball community have been saddened by the sudden death of Mike Ricciardi, athletics director at Ramapo College in Mahwah, N.J., who has been instrumental in the development of men's volleyball at the NCAA Division III level.

Ricciardi (1957-2010), has been the commissioner of the North East Collegiate Volleyball Association, the largest men's volleyball conference in the country, since its inception in 1995.  He is widely considered among the most influential individuals in the history of NCAA Division III men's volleyball, which is in line to be granted its own NCAA championship, likely as early as 2012.

He leaves behind a wife Anna Marie, and their two children Michael Jr. and Christina, along with countless friends and colleagues.
