Marcin Midura, a 6-4 outside hitter for Rutgers-Newark, has been named the Sports Imports/AVCA Division I-II Men's National Player of the Week after propelling the Scarlet Raiders to a pair of wins, including an upset of then-No. 6 Penn State. The sophomore kicked action off by drilling 12 kills, to go along with two digs, two blocks and an ace in Rutgers-Newark's sweep of Sacred Heart. He ended the week with a bang, notching a double-double of 22 kills and 10 digs, in addition to scoring two blocks and an ace in the four-set triumph over Penn State. The win marked Rutgers-Newark's first against the Nittany Lions since March 27, 2004. For the week, Midura hit an efficient .475 and averaged 4.86 kills, 1.71 digs and 5.36 points per game. This is the sixth time a Rutgers-Newark athlete has garnered Sports Imports/AVCA Men's Division I-II Player of the Week accolades, the last player to do so being Andrew Pink on March 29, 2004. The Scarlet Raiders are coached by Karl France.
Chris Reininger, a 6-4 middle blocker for MSOE has been named the Sports Imports/AVCA Men's Division III National Player of the Week. He earned the award for his efforts in leading the Raiders to a 3-0 mark on the week, including the program's first-ever victory over then-No. 12 Carthage. The junior began the week with a 12-kill, three-dig, two-block outing in MSOE's sweep of Carthage, which allowed the Raiders to clinch a No. 1 seed in the upcoming Midwest 3 Volleyball Conference Tournament. He followed by totaling 11 kills, three digs, three blocks and an ace in MSOE's whitewashing of Fontbonne. Reininger capped the week by netting three kills, two digs, two aces and a block, while only seeing action in one game of the Raiders' blanking of Mount St. Joseph. For the week, Reininger averaged 4.64 points, 1.42 digs and nearly one block per game, while hitting a sizzling .657. This marks only the second time a MSOE player has been awarded Sports Imports/AVCA Men's Division III National Player of the Week accolades, with Chris Brandt taking home the school's last honor March 9, 2009. The Raiders are coached by Brian Gibboney.
