LEXINGTON, Ky. (December 6, 2007) - The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) is proud to announce that Central Lakes College head women's volleyball coach Jane Peterson has been selected has the 2007 AVCA Two-Year Colleges National Coach of the Year.

Peterson has been the mentor at Central Lakes since taking over the program in 1990, and this season has proved to be another successful one during her rein. The Raiders captured their third National Junior College Association of America (NJCAA) Division III title in the past eight seasons, defeating Ridgewater College 3-1 in the championship match in Rochester, Minn., on Nov. 17.

Central Lakes, guided by Peterson, ended the season with an overall record of 34-7 and earned its fifth-consecutive Minnesota Community College Conference (MCCC) state championship, also having won the title in 2003-06.

For her career, Peterson, who is also the athletics director at the college, has compiled a record of 425-165 in her 18 seasons as the Raiders' coach. During that span, she has coached 13 All-Americans and has earned National Coach of the Year laurels twice, in 2000 and 2001 when her team won back-to-back NJCAA Division III National Championships. In addition, Central Lakes has won its region and qualified for the NJCAA Division III National Tournament seven of the last eight seasons and have never finished lower than third.

The AVCA will formally present the NAIA National Coach of the Year award to Peterson at the 2007 Jostens Coaches Honors Luncheon in Sacramento, Calif., on Thursday, December 13.  The luncheon is held in conjunction with the 2007 AVCA Annual Convention.
