Kelly Murphy, a junior setter/right side hitter for the University of Florida, has been named the Sports Imports/AVCA Division I National Player of the Week. She earned the award after sparking the Gators to a perfect start to the season at the Runza/AVCA College Volleyball Showcase, which included a pair of wins over teams ranked in the top-10 of the AVCA Division I Coaches Top 25 Poll. Florida, who was ranked No. 13 at the time of the matches, began the weekend with a 3-1 victory over then-No.9 Iowa State, with Murphy netting seven kills, 25 assists, eight digs and two blocks. She followed by registering her 16th career triple-double in the Gators' five-set thriller over then-No. 2 Nebraska on Sunday. The two-time AVCA All-American tied her career-high with 20 kills on .514 hitting, and also chalked up 23 assists, ten digs and three blocks in the match. For the week, Murphy, who was named to the Showcase's All-Tournament Team, averaged 3.00 kills, 5.44 assists, 2.00 digs and 3.50 points per set, while hitting .400. This is the second time Murphy has received the Sports Imports/AVCA Division I National Player of the Week award, as she also nabbed the honor on Sept. 30, 2008, and it also marks the 9th time an athlete from Florida has earned the distinction. The Gators are coached by Mary Wise.
