Wittenberg's Amy Cox Selected Sports Imports/AVCA Division III National Player of the Week
Amy Cox, a senior setter for then-No. 11 Wittenberg University, has been named the Sports Imports/AVCA Division III National Player of the Week. She earned the award after being named the MVP of the Wittenberg National Invitational, where she helped lead the Tigers to triumphs over three nationally-recognized teams. Wittenberg began the event by upsetting then-No. 8 St. Thomas in sweeping fashion, with Cox dishing out 37 assists, in addition to grabbing seven digs, two blocks, two kills and an ace. She followed by contributing 37 assists, five kills, five digs, two blocks and an ace in the Tigers' blanking of then-No. 14 Wisconsin-Whitewater. Cox ended action by tossing in 34 assists, two digs, two kills, two blocks and an ace in Wittenberg's 3-1 victory over Cal Lutheran, a team who was listed among the squads receiving votes in the AVCA Division III Coaches Top 25 Poll. For the week, Cox averaged 10.80 assists, 1.40 digs, nearly one kill and 2.00 points per set, while directing the Tigers' offense to a .259 team hitting percentage. This is the 10th time an athlete from Wittenberg has earned the Sports Imports/AVCA Division III National Player of the Week award, the last honor going to Jan Kehres on Oct. 1, 2007. The Tigers are coached by Paco Labrador.
