Alaina Bergsma, a redshirt-sophomore outside hitter for then-No. 15 University of Oregon, has been named the Sports Imports/AVCA Division I National Player of the Week after helping to extend the Ducks' unblemished start to the season with a pair of key Pac-10 victories last week. Bergsma kicked things off for Oregon by tallying 12 kills on .417 hitting, while picking up one dig and one block in the Ducks' blanking of Washington State. The next evening, Bergsma helped Oregon secure its first win over then-No. 7 Washington in Eugene in 10 years, with the 3-1 victory also snapping the Huskies' perfect 36-set season win streak. The sparkplug hit an efficient .559, blasting 21 kills and tallying two digs and four blocks in the process. For the week, Bergsma averaged 4.71 kills, and 5.07 points per set, while hitting at a .500 clip. This marks the fourth time an Oregon athlete has been honored as the Sports Imports/AVCA Division I National Player of the Week, the last being Sonja Newcombe on Oct. 20, 2009. The Ducks are coached by Jim Moore.
