Ashley Lee, a senior setter for Long Beach State University, has been named the Sports Imports/AVCA Division I National Player of the Week. She earned the award after guiding the 49ers to a pair of Big West wins last week, while also accomplishing a rare feat. Lee kicked off action by dishing out 39 assists and picking up 13 digs and two kills in LBSU's sweep of UC Irvine. She followed by becoming the first athlete in Long Beach State's storied history to record a quadrouple-double, netting 50 assists, 13 digs, 10 kills and 10 assisted blocks in the 49ers 3-2 victory over UC Riverside. For the week, Lee averaged 11.12 assists, 3.25 digs, 1.50 kills, 1.25 blocks and 2.12 points per set. This marks the seventh time a Long Beach State athlete has been honored as the Sports Imports/AVCA Division I National Player of the Week, the last being Alexis Crimes on Nov. 5, 2007. The 49ers are coached by Brian Gimmilaro.
