Lauren Rapp, a senior right side hitter for the University of Kentucky, has been named the Sports Imports/AVCA Division I National Player of the Week. She earned the award after leading the Wildcats to a pair of SEC victories, including a thrilling 3-2 upset of then-No.15 LSU. Against the ranked Tigers, Rapp recorded her 12th career double-double and fifth of the season by striking 17 kills and adding 10 digs. The Wildcats had an easier time with the Razorbacks, sweeping them in straight sets as Rapp led the way with 13 kills and five blocks. For the week, the Indiana native averaged 3.75 kills, 2.12 digs, 1.12 blocks, 1.00 assists and 4.56 points per set with a team-best .388 hitting clip. Rapp's honor marks the second time an athlete from the University of Kentucky has received the Sports Imports/AVCA Division I National Player of the Week award, the last coming Oct. 4, 1993, when Krista Robinson earned the distinction. The Wildcats are coached by Craig Skinner. |
