Juliann Faucette, a senior outside hitter for then-No. 8 The University of Texas, has been named the Sports Imports/AVCA Division I National Player of the Week. She earned the award after leading the Longhorns to a pair of Big 12 victories last week. Faucette started things by recording 16 kills (.324), 10 digs and three blocks in a sweep of Missouri. The Big 12 Preseason Player of the Year then smashed 26 kills on .396 hitting, in addition to collecting 15 digs and two blocks in a four-set win over Kansas. It was the fourth time in the last five outings that she tallied 24-plus kills and also marked her 20th career double-double. For the week, Faucette averaged 6.00 kills, 3.57 digs and 6.79 points per set, while hitting a .368 clip. Faucette's honor marks the sixth time an athlete from Texas has received the Sports Imports/AVCA Division I National Player of the Week award, the last coming September 8, 2009 when Ashley Engle earned the distinction. The Longhorns are coached by Jerritt Elliot.
