Jennifer Hefner, a senior middle blocker for then-No. 19 Wayne State College (Neb.), has been named the Sports Imports/AVCA Division II National Player of the Week. She earned the award after guiding her team to 4-0 mark at the Colorado Premier Challenge, which included wins over three squads who were ranked in the top-10 of the AVCA Division II Coaches Top 25 Poll. Hefner started things off for the Wildcats by notching 12 kills, five blocks and two digs in WSC's 3-1 win over Regis. She turned in a 7-kill, four-block, four-dig outing in the Wildcats' sweep of then-No. 6 Saint Leo. Hefner followed by drilling 12 kills and collecting two blocks, two digs, two aces and two assists in Wayne State's four-set upset of three-time defending national champion, top-ranked Concordia-St. Paul. She wrapped up the weekend by contributing 13 kills, 12 blocks, one dig and one ace in the Wildcats' sweep of then-No. 10 Southwest Minnesota State. For the week, Hefner averaged 2.93 kills, 1.60 blocks and 4.10 points per set, while hitting .300. This marks the fourth time a Wayne State athlete has earned Sports Imports/AVCA Division II Player of the Week honors, and is the second accolade for Hefner, who also earned the recognition Sept. 15, 2009. The Wildcats are coached by Scott Kniefl.
