Danielle Selkridge, a sophomore middle blocker for then-No. 5 University of Tampa, has been named the Sports Imports/AVCA Division II National Player of the Week. She earned the award after keying the Spartans to a pair of Sunshine State Conference wins last week, allowing the team to maintain its hold of first place in the league standings. Selkridge kicked things off for Tampa by hitting a blistering .714 with 23 kills and three blocks in a 3-2 Spartans triumph over Barry. She followed by notching 11 kills on .500 hitting and contributing two blocks and one ace in Tampa's victory over Nova Southeastern. For the week, Selkridge averaged 3.78 kills and 4.17 points pet set, while hitting .625. This marks just the second time an athlete from Tampa has garnered Sports Imports/AVCA Division II Player of the Week honors, the last time coming Nov. 17, 2003 when Ania Ruiz earned the distinction. The Spartans are coached by Chris Catanach.
