Emily Palkert, a senior middle blocker for then-No. 6 Concordia University, St. Paul, has been named the Sports Imports/AVCA Division II National Player of the Week. She earned the award after propelling the Golden Bears to three Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference wins last week. Palkert began the week with an 11-kill, four-block, one-dig effort in CSP's sweep of Bemidji State. Next up, the two-time AVCA All-American drilled 15 kills and netted two blocks and one assist in a 3-1 victory over then-No. 14 Minnesota State. In the Golden Bears' sweeping upset of then-No. 2 Southwest Minnesota State to end the week, Palkert tallied 18 kills, two blocks and one dig. For the week, Palkert, also who became the program's all-time leader in kills, averaged 4.40 kills and 5.00 points per set, while hitting .378. This marks the 10th time an athlete from Concordia-St. Paul has garnered Sports Imports/AVCA Division II Player of the Week honors, the last time coming Nov. 24, 2009 when Sadie Kessler earned the distinction. The Golden Bears are coached by Brady Starkey.
