Ngoc Phan, a junior libero for then-No. 19 Metropolitan State College of Denver, has been named the Sports Imports/AVCA Division II National Player of the Week. She earned the award after helping the Roadrunners to a pair of Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference wins last week, including an upset of then-No. 9 Nebraska-Kearney. In Metro State's 3-2 victory over the Lopers, Phan shattered her career- high of 20 digs with 36 digs as she helped spur the Roadrunners' defensive efforts in holding Nebraska-Kearney to a .212 team hitting percentage. The following day, Phan tied the school record for digs in a three-set match, netting 30 digs in Metro State's sweep of Chadron State. For the week, Phan averaged 8.25 digs per set and was nearly perfect on serve-receive with a .957 serve-receive percentage and just one receiving error. This marks the third time a Metro State athlete has garnered Sports Imports/AVCA Division II Player of the Week honors, the last time coming Nov. 17, 2009 when Bri Morley earned the distinction. The Roadrunners are coached by Debbie Hendricks.
